Elliswick LTC

The AGM chaired by Dave Watkinson took place on Wednesday November 18th at the Elliswick LTC Club House. The membership were updated about the progress concerning installation of floodlights to courts 5 and 6 and elected 3 new members to the ELTC committee. The new members are Debbie Liles, replacing Trish Church as Ladies Captain, Cherry Campbell replacing Barry Bridgman on the Bar and Paul Templeman replacing Alan Punter as Secretary.

Agenda and Management Committee reports will be distributed shortly.

We are very fortunate to have amongst our membership Graham McNeilly, one of the most sought after quiz masters in the area. He and his wife, Elaine, are running our Annual Quiz on Saturday 14 November. Those who have been before know it is fun, yet challenging. Please sign up for this event on the noticeboard - 6 per table. A fish & chip supper and dessert will be provided. Please arrive 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start.

The funeral of Ken Plowman will take place on Thursday 8th October at 3pm West Herts Crematorium,Garston and afterwards all are invited back to Elliswick Tennis Club for refreshments. Ken's family have requested flowers through undertakers Phillips of Harpenden or donations to one or two charities which will be announced at the crematorium.

I am sorry to have to inform you that one of our former active members, Ken Plowman died yesterday at St.Albans Hospital aged 83.

Ken will be remembered by his many friends for his passionate love of the game of tennis and for his loyal and enthusiastic support for the club over many years. Although Ken had not played for a number of years he still maintained a keen interest in the development of the club.

Funeral arrangements will be notified when known.

Wimbledon fortnight has come and gone; we've reclaimed the Ashes; Elliswick has had a great Finals Day and we have managed to fit in a few BBQs. What is there left? Plenty at ELTC.

American Tournament
August Bank Holiday Monday - there are still some spare places. 2pm start.

Ladies Invitation Tournament
This is a great way to get to know members you do not normally mix with, as you will play everyone in your group. Sign up on the notice board for this tournament which will be played mid-September to early December. Groups seeded by standard, with the winners of each group playing off against each other.

Supper Night
Wednesday 9 September. Last one for this season.

Bridge Evenings
Recommence Tuesday 22 September.

Military Whist Evening
Saturday 10 October. List will go up on noticeboard for you to sign up for on 31 August. Tables of 4 and prizes for the winners who will be determined by the most flags won.

Quiz
ELTC will send a table to Harpenden LTC on Saturday 17 October. Sign up on noticeboard if you are keen to represent Elliswick.

BlackRock Masters Final
Places still available at The Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 6 December. Elliswick has a block booking. Add your names to the list in the clubhouse.

We will be running a tie-break shootout from 6.30 this Wednesday 5th August, as well as clubnight. Entry will be two pounds - entrants into an unseeded draw in a straight knockout 7 point tie-break. The final winner wins the lot as a bar credit. All members welcome.
